One of the first things you’ll notice about these brothers is how much they care about one another. That is why they hope to be adopted together. Melvin Douglas “Dougie” (05/96), the blond with the impish grin, is a year older that Brandon (9/97). One thing is for sure - life with Dougie and Brandon will never be dull. Dougie and Brandon have a lot going for them, but the most important thing to any child is a permanent loving family. Dougie prides himself on being a generous person. He likes to share with others. He enjoys riding his bike, watching cartoons, and playing video games. He enjoys trying new things and traveling. He likes to be the center of attention and seeks attention openly. He can be argumentative at times and likes getting in the last word. Dougie is working on gaining control of his emotions and learning how they affect his behavior. He is learning to honor boundaries set by others in his life. Dougie expresses a desire to find an adoptive home. While the idea of adoption is still new for him, he is seeing this as a positive. Brandon is inquisitive and enjoys new experiences. He is an active child who likes to be on the move. He enjoys playing both inside and outside, bur prefers to be outdoors. Brandon is generous and likes to be helpful. He can be somewhat clingy with adults and can get under foot in his effort to help out. Brandon likes attention and is affectionate. He enjoys toy cars and sports. Brandon wants to be adopted with his brother. Brandon and Dougie feel insecure about their future. They like school but struggle some academically because they have difficulty staying focused. They need stability and healing that will only come from being claimed. In a supportive family, these boys will flourish once they feel secure and gain confidence that their past has taken away from them. It may take these boys time to build a new relationship and trust with their adoptive parents. Dougie and Brandon need a family who will be there for their life long journey, one day at a time.
