Description
Latonya and Crystal are like many teenaged siblings who get along better at some times than at other times, but they would very much like to be adopted together.
Latonya describes herself as silly, caring, funny, and loving. She can be a good leader when she wants to be. Latonya enjoys singing in the church choir, swimming, dancing, and talking on the phone. She also likes to draw, go to movies, and shop at the mall. She hopes to become a lawyer when she grows up. Latonya attends mainstream classes at school. She had not previously applied herself and has now set a goal to work hard to catch up the grade she failed. With help and encouragement from her foster mom, LaTonya is learning to talk about her feelings rather than reacting to them. She needs to realize that she must learn to compromise as she can’t always have things her way.
Her foster mom says Crystal is caring and loving with a great sense of humor. Latonya says that when people are sad, Crystal can cheer them up and make them laugh. She enjoys talking on the phone with friends, shopping at the mall, and swimming. She also enjoys attending church with her foster mom. In general, Crystal is social, talkative, sweet, and affectionate, and she loves playing with younger children and animals. She hopes to become a veterinarian when she grows up. Crystal attends mainstream classes at school where she earns average grades. She has been looking forward to her first year in high school and the opportunity to participate in some extracurricular activities. Counseling helped her develop appropriate methods of expressing herself and she no longer needs to attend or take medication.
Latonya and Crystal need adoptive parents who will have realistic expectations and who understand teenagers. Latonya will do well with parents that do not expect or demand instant love and affection, while Crystal will do better with parents who can provide her with affection and hugs. Since both girls still share concerns regarding their birth mother, their adoptive parents should allow and support this contact. Latonya and Crystal have two brothers with whom they have contact and occasional visits and should be encouraged to continue.
