Description
Darius would like a forever family and to be adopted. When Darius grows up, he would like to race motorcycles. He has also expressed an interest in working construction and being an auto mechanic. He would excel in a vocational training program.
Darius makes good grades at school. He is in special education classes at his school due to his limited intellectual functioning. He is classified mentally retarded (MR) due to his low IQ but he is very high functioning and does not really appear to be MR. Darius does not have any behavior problems at school. He did play football last year but decided not to make the huge commitment to playing this fall. He does still enjoy playing football. He also likes riding dirt bicycles.
Darius is a well behaved and polite child. His DCS caseworker says that she has been his case manager since he came into custody and I has always been struck by his good manners. He does have some behavior problems and can be defiant but for the most part, he is a good kid. Darius has always been well liked by his teachers and foster parents.
Darius does not have a preference of a one parent home versus a two parent home. He states that he does not like younger children, especially younger than 10 years old. He would prefer to live with children his own age or 10 years or older. He would prefer an African American home. Darius is currently placed with his half-brother Montese. They recently started living together for the first time in many years. They do fight some as normal brothers do, but enjoy living together and want to continue to live together. Darius does have two other half-siblings that he would like to stay in contact with, Terica and Mimi. Terica and Mimi live with other relative and non-relative placements. Darius and Montese also visit their Uncle Rocky and Aunt Ashley sometimes and would like to continue this contact as well. Darius will need to continue counseling as recommended by his therapist so his adoptive family will need to be supportive of his counseling and perhaps be open to some family counseling if recommended.
