Description
Demetrius is a happy and loving little boy. He enjoys attending a specialized camp each summer where he can swim and go horseback riding. The Special Olympics are also important to him. Demetrius likes to take things apart, play with puzzles and Playdough, and is absolutely fascinated with the vacuum cleaner. He dreams of having his own and being able to take it apart.
Demetrius attends special education classes where he has made impressive academic progress. A personal aide works with him after school and on weekends. While Demetrius has limited verbal skills, he is now using sentences rather than one word statements to express himself. Speech therapy at school has helped him to learn to communicate through words and expressions. Demetrius requires a great deal of supervision. He has adjusted well to his current foster home where his foster parents provide him with very clear and consistent boundaries and routine.
Demetrius is a very loving boy who needs a family that will love, respect, and nurture him. He deserves a family that will devote time to him and make him feel as much a part of the family as any other family member. An adoptive family for Demetrius will need to commit to working with services that are provided in the community. They should have experience with special needs children challenged with autism.
