Description

Derek is a cute little boy, full of joy and energy. He is sweet and is able to show attachments. He thrives on attention and likes to get his own way. Derek can be assertive and territorial. He responds better to consistent routines and little stimulus. Derek loves books and being read to. When Derek gets involved in an activity, he can lose himself in it. He loves playing with his train. Derek is very difficult to understand due to his limited communication skills. He is able to communicate his basic needs. Derek loves school. He requires a special classroom as he learns at a slower rate than others his age. He is easily frustrated and has trouble focusing. He struggles with relating to other children. Sometime his behaviors require close supervision and redirection. Derek requires constant sight supervision while awake.

Derek needs a very experienced parent who will be able to provide unconditional love; strong boundaries; patience and consistent care. Derek will require extra attention and supervision. Derek's family will need to encourage him each step of the way. He would like to maintain some supervised contact with his two younger brothers who will be placed separately. Derek should probably be the only child still in the home.
