Dustin is a great kid with a delightful personality. He enjoys riding his bike, scooter, and skateboard, but his favorite things to do are to go to the river to fish or swim with his foster family. Dustin can be outgoing and friendly when he is comfortable and he likes to help his foster mom. He is a very compassionate boy who doesn't like to hurt anyone's feelings. He would like the opportunity to be a Boy Scout.
Dustin attends regular classes at school where his treatment team feels he can do the work and should be a little more challenged. His foster mom works with him to increase his academic skills and be more attentive to completing assignments. Dustin has made significant progress in his current foster home where the parents take time to do things with him that he enjoys and this has had a positive impact on his behavior and actions.
Dustin's progress in his current home has been a direct result of the time, attention, and attitude of his foster parents. By "normalizing" his behaviors rather than overreacting to them, Dustin has been able to move in a positive direction. It is important that Dustin know his birth parents are safe and that he has the option to call them, which has actually resulted in his needing less communication. Dustin is a loving, caring, and delightful boy who needs a calm, yet structured family life. His need for a strong feeling of belonging and being part of a family should be nurtured and embraced.
