Description

Heather (12/93) is quiet, polite, and friendly. Her foster mother says she has a beautiful and giving personality. Heather loves kids and enjoys playing and interacting with them. Heather’s giving nature is most obvious when around children, whom she will give the last of anything she has, including candy. She shows concern for others and is a good decision maker. Heather is in the 8th grade and has no educational or behavioral issues in school. Her favorite subject in school is Social Studies. Socially, Heather has good verbal skills, and likes to please others. She reports to have quite a few acquaintances and one close friend at school. She says she does not usually initiate interaction with peers as she likes to “see what they are like first.” Heather loves animals. She lives on a farm with her foster family where she has cows and horses. She especially likes horses. She helps to groom and feed them. She is often seen talking to the animals and being very loving and kind to them. The family also has a Sugar Glider (resembles a chipmunk) in the home and Heather is very attached to it. Her foster mother says she will let Heather take it with her if she gets adopted. Heather, like most teens, is also very fond of her cell phone, music, and sweets. She is always listening to music, and enjoys all kinds of it. She has lots of CD’s, but she prefers country or rap. She leans towards country as her favorite. Heather likes to spend time on the computer, read romance novels, and hang out at the local teen center. She says she is interested in extracurricular and sports activities. She is not really an outdoors kind of person, but she will normally go along with anything her foster family does, and the do go camping frequently. The family also eats out often, and Heather's favorite food is Chinese. When asked about an adoptive family, Heather says she wants a family who will give her “tender loving care.” She reported no other preferences. Heather has a younger sister who she maintains contact with and her adoptive family will need to continue to allow her to have contact with her sister. Heather is not very hopeful that she will be adopted. She has come from a very traumatic background which has resulted in her having issues with trust and poor self image. She will need a family to be very nurturing to help her with these issues, and to be patient with her in adjusting to a new family as she is very attached to her foster family.
