Khalil, or "KC" as everyone calls him, is a very happy and affectionate child. While he is unable to see or speak, KC responds delightfully to those he knows with his wonderful smiles and infectious laugh. He has his own method of communication with those who care for him. The staff members at his home say KC is a joy to care for. He smiles a lot and rarely cries. KC loves music and playing with toys that he can feel and that make noise. KC attends a special education classroom. His teacher and her assistants provide remarkable care to the children in the class. Multiple field trips are made to allow the children flexibility and to enjoy swimming and participating in other activities. KC spends time on a mat at school which allows him to roll, bend his knees, and enjoy some freedom. While he must be strapped to his wheelchair, KC is able to use a stander to help maximize the use of his legs. An adoptive family for KC should have a great deal of patience and commitment. He will continue to require extensive care by trained professionals and caretakers throughout the remainder of his life. A two-parent family that can work together in loving and caring for this cheerful little boy would be ideal. Having children in the home to interact in positive ways with KC would be ideal.
