Photolisting Profile for Matthew
Matthew
Description
While small in size, this soon to be fourteen year old has wonderful speed and dexterity. Full of energy, Matthew prefers active pursuits as opposed to sedentary ones. He is a wonderful artist and does enjoy playing video games. His drawings are detailed and concise. Due to an auditory processing problem, hyperactivity and limited early experiences, learning is truly work for Matthew. He tries very hard in school. After expending so much energy during the school day, he has a hard time completing any additional schoolwork at home. He is excellent at rote memory tasks and as a result excels in spelling and basic math facts. Of more difficulty for Matthew is the ability to apply the information he has learned. It is critical for those working with him to regularly check for understanding. Matthew has a strong desire for social relationships and demonstrates good social skills and impulse control. While he appears outgoing and willing to interact, he remains hyper vigilant and inwardly guarded as he is fearful of judgement and rejection.
Matthew is searching to answer the question "Who am I?" Lacking a clear understanding of his sense of self, he tries to accommodate himself to others. He will benefit from parents who are able to provide strong guidance and support by overtly communicating thoughts, feelings and expectations. It will be extremely beneficial if he is a part of a family that provides consistency and structure. Since Matthew does not have a clear picture of who he is based upon his biological beginnings, he will benefit from family members who can share a common vision and help him shape a sense of self by helping him identify what has taken place in his life, clarifying his confusion about events and discussing feelings that would be expected in such instances.
