Marke’l’s home staff say they like his willingness to help others, his organization, his honesty, and that he is sincere in trying to comply with expectations. He is one of those people who has an “old soul” and who seems to identify more with adult tastes and behaviors. Marke’l enjoys listening to music, drawing, or playing X-Box. He has taken a marked interest in cooking and would make a good chef. Marke’l is also good at anything to do with building with his hands and could be a good designer.
Marke’l has adjusted well to high school and his small classroom. He has made some positive strides in his behavior and academic achievement in his Occupational Course of Study. Marke’l attends counseling to help him deal with past experiences, continue improving his behaviors and learn not to pick up things that don’t belong to him.
An adoptive family for Marke'l should have experience working with teenagers. They must be flexible in their expectations and experienced in dealing with some of the challenges of adopting children in foster care. Marke'l's adoptive parents will need to advocate for him at school and work with him on continuing to improve peer relationships. Most of all, they will provide him with a maximum amount of love, affection, and a sense of safety and permanence. Marke'l has a brother with whom regular visits and contact should be supported.
