Introducing Matthew
When asked to use three words to describe himself, Matthew chose “smart, thoughtful, and loving.” According to others who know him he is also sweet, friendly, and talkative. Matthew’s favorite activities are cooking, eating, and gardening. He would like to cook for a living when he grows up and says if there were a school club for gardening and cooking, he’d join. Matthew also enjoys video games, going to the beach, and Rap or country music.
Matthew has made tremendous academic progress through home schooling. He has managed to make up an entire grade level and is doing very well. Due to some developmental disabilities it is important that Matthew be allowed specific educational services such as visuals (graphs and charts) to supplement his learning. He has also improved his coping skills, which in turns helps improve behaviors.
Matthew is a remarkable boy who has endured a great deal. He is continuing to learn and grow at his group home as they provide the structure and consistency that he requires. Matthew will do best with a two-parent adoptive family that can help him process daily activities and tasks. He needs a highly structured environment where expectations and routines are communicated to him on a daily basis. Matthew has a brother and sister with whom frequent phone contact and occasional visits will be necessary.
