Description

Brenden enjoys outside activities, watching television and movies. He is a respectful child and acts appropriately in public settings. Brenden is slowly but surely making progress in completing daily chores and handling consequences for inappropriate actions. Socially, Brenden is isolated at most times and easily provoked. When in a setting where he is required to sit quietly for a long time, such as movies or church, he will likely become restless and agitated. Brenden is easily distracted by irrelevant thoughts, extraneous noises and conversations. At times, he becomes so active that he has trouble calming and settling down. Brenden can be impatient and has difficulty waiting his turn. He often feels nervous and uncomfortable in social environments. He is fearful of making mistakes and being criticized. Claiming his favorite sport is baseball, Brenden says he likes to play inside and listen to music. His favorite foods are ravioli, pizza and spaghetti. He hopes for a family with other children close to his age and pets, especially dogs. Brenden says he likes school and his favorite subject is science. He receives special education services for reading, spelling and math and does well with his schoolwork. For the most part, Brenden's behavior in school is appropriate. Diagnosed with Bipolar I Disorder, Attention Deficit Hyperactivity Disorder (ADHD), Anxiety Disorder (NOS), and Reading Disorder, Brenden takes medication to help control his emotions and behavior. When faced with stress, he may engage in demanding, argumentative and defiant behavior. Visit me at the Heart Gallery of Central Texas.

Brenden would flourish in a family setting that is consistent with structure, guidance and support. The adoptive family will need to work with Brenden on building his self-confidence, praising him for completed assignments and encouragement for interactions within a social setting.
