Physical: Mild

Description
A child who is constantly in motion, Christopher enjoys having books read to him. He has difficulty participating in most activities dues to a very short attention span and his behaviors. He does like to play ball toss, take part in dancing and do arts and crafts activities. He needs supervision to carry out most daily functions. Christopher is capable of completing his daily chores with prompting from his caregivers. He can use a fork and spoon and can drink from a cup. Christopher clears his area after eating and can place his dishes in the sink with verbal prompting. He has limited verbal abilities and communicates his wants and needs in basic phrases. At times he requires prompting to engage in speaking. Christopher requires structure and routine, not only to encourage appropriate behavior, but to also ensure that he has time for training and for gaining new skills. When he does not have a structured routine, his behaviors can become more aggressive and self-defeating. Christopher requires consistency with his daily routine and schedule. He enjoys playing basketball, listening to music, watching television and playing board games.
It is of utmost importance that Christopher's adoptive family maintains structure, stability and routine. The transition into an adoptive placement needs to be extremely gradual and at Christopher's pace, which may take several months. Christopher's adoptive family will need to assure 24-hour supervision with verbal and physical prompting. He needs to be stimulated to help him engage in speaking and completing simple tasks and follow directions. Christopher needs a loving and nurturing home that will encourage appropriate behavior and assist him in following a daily schedule.
