Description
Dadrien progressed this month! It was noted that "Dadrien mouthed the word hello or hi. Dadrien attends classes and participates in the Developmental Skills/APE program. He has "mastered" the three objectives set for him in his classes. In the early part of 2007, Dadrien mastered the ability to utilize eye blinking or mouth/lip movement to prompt more stimulus. He responds at goal-level to sensory stimulus and, he started consistently responding to visual or auditory stimulation. His increased head and hand movements allow him to explore his world more and his frequency of vocalizations have increased notably. Dadrien will continue with his classes and time with teachers to increase his potential ability to communicate and function in every day life. Dadrien's ability to be interactive with and respond to his environment appears to be increasing progressively. Dadrien is active and alert in the classroom. He is currently trying to master and play a soft spongy piano with his dominate hand. It appears as though Dadrien was able to press the keys on the piano with his elbow and forearm much better than using his fingertips. Dadrien has the following diagnoses which impact his development: Mental Retardation, seizures, Cerebral Palsy, Spastic quadriparesis and Cortical blindness. Dadrien is fed by tube. Dadrien is completely reliant on the skills of his caretakers for all of his daily needs. First and foremost, a prospective adoptive family should be fully trained and experienced in how to care for a child with Dadrien's diagnoses/conditions. Dadrien will need a family who is devoted to, and diligent about, working with him to encourage as much developmental progress as possible. The family should be located in a school district with a dedicated intensive special education program. Their community should have comprehensive medical care facilities very nearby.
