Daijah came to the attention of the D.C. Child and Family Services Agency because her mother had a difficult time caring for her due to her special diagnosis. Daijah was born on May 11, 1997. She was born with Down Syndrome. Since coming into care, Daijah has been in two foster homes. She attends a local special needs school where she is making progress. Although Daijah's speech is extremely limited, she is able to communicate her needs to her foster mother and school teacher. She is potty trained but requires prompting at home. Daijah can be affectionate with people she is very familiar with. She is able to feed and dress herself with assistance. She has a healthy appetite but needs to be monitored to ensure she chews her food properly before swallowing. Daijah prefers to keep to herself and seldom interacts with other children in social settings. Daijah enjoys praise when she does something positive. Daijah would benefit from an adoptive family who in knowledgeable about how to parent a child with special needs, especially Down Syndrome. The adoptive family must be very patient, attentive, flexible, and able to meet her developmental needs.
