Daniel P is a 11-year-old boy from Maine who is hoping to be adopted.
Daniel is an energetic, sensitive boy who was born in March of 1998. He describes himself as a cool, lovable, nice boy who can run fast. Daniel enjoys both indoor and outdoor activities. Daniel needs variety and can get bored easily with his activities. He can be very competitive and likes to win in all that he does. Daniel has a bright smile and can be very engaging. When he is interested in a thing or activity his pleasure is easily read on his happy face. Daniel’s favorite activities include playing with Pokemon and Yu-gi-oh cards, Bionicles, playing video games and watching TV. Daniel also loves to go to the movies. He recently saw Speed Racer and his favorite movie is Spirited Away. In December he went to see the movie Waterhorse and spent a great deal of time researching the Loch Ness Monster as a result. Although Daniel is partial to indoor activities he can also be happily amused with outdoor ones as well. He enjoys riding his bike, swimming, playing baseball and going out for ice cream. In the past he has taken Karate lessons and this is something he feels he would enjoy doing again in the future. Another of Daniel’s favorite activities is watching the Red Sox. He is a big baseball fan! His favorite players are Manny Ramirez and David Ortiz. When questioned if there are any activities he does not like or would not want to participate in, Daniel said he would never want to watch the Yankees play, except of course if the Red Sox were beating them. Daniel is currently in a day treatment program for school where he can get the extra support that he needs. He is on grade level but does require guidance to stay on task and focused. Daniel has received speech services in the past as part of his school program. Daniel says his favorite part of the school day is recess and his least favorite is Reading. Daniel and his brother came into DHHS custody in March of 2004 due to abuse and neglect in the birth home. Daniel has occasional visits with his brother and his grandmother and it would be important to him for these to continue. Daniel would do best in a family that can provide a consistent, structured home. It is important for Daniel to know in advance what his daily routine will entail. Daniel does require extra time to transition between activities, but responds well when given time to make the right decision. Daniel also responds well when given prompts as to what is happening next. It is also beneficial for Daniel to have “time warnings” when ending an activity that he enjoys. When upset or frustrated he does well when “given space”. Adoption subsidy may be available through The Department of Health and Human Services.
