Derrick is a 9-year-old boy from Texas who is hoping to be adopted.
Derrick is a young boy who is full of life. He has a smile that illuminates like a light bulb. He is playful and has a lot of energy. Derrick enjoys playing basketball, being outdoors, coloring, watching movies, and playing video games. He is a sweet, affectionate, and caring boy. His favorite meal is chicken nuggets, mashed potatoes, and green beans. Derrick is motivated when he receives positive attention from caregivers. Though he may struggle with appropriate boundaries, he is receptive of gentle reminders of expectations. Derrick is very active and sometimes has to be told to slow down. He requires consistency and firmness. Derrick loves school and enjoys interacting with other children and is easily distracted. Though he is limited in his verbal skills, he works hard on using other forms to communicate his needs. He is also working on being self-sufficient with activities of daily living. Derrick has good understanding and is eager to do well. Derrick wants to be settled in a place that he can call his home. Visit me at the Heart Gallery of Deep East Texas.
Derrick will benefit from a family who is patient and caring. He needs individual attention and care to help him with his developmental milestones. Derrick needs a caregiver who will work with him to get him on target. The family needs to be familiar with sign language and able to assist him with his verbal skills. The family needs to be loving and supportive.
