Ian is a 13-year-old boy from Texas who is hoping to be adopted.

Ian can be loving towards people he is close to. His foster mom has reported that he will follow her around the house, just chatting away about whatever is on his mind. Ian is usually a pretty laid back child. He does not generally get riled up about anything, although he can get this way if he is being teased/picked on, or if he is scared or upset. Ian prefers quiet, more solitary activities to outdoor or social activities. He is a little shy when first meeting new people. He gets a little nervous. Ian does not relate well with younger children. He is hesitant to try new things and needs encouragement to take on new tasks and even to sometimes complete familiar ones. When overwhelmed, Ian tends to withdraw from people. Ian presents as a much younger child with his daily living skills, communication, socialization and motor skills. In fact, Ian's abilities are a bit of a mystery. He is able to accomplish some adaptive behavior, but not others. He can dress himself, but needs his clothes laid out in a certain way to ensure he puts them on properly. He had learned to tie his shoes but forgets if he wears flip flops or sandals for an extended time. There are days when he knows how to dry his hair and other days when that skill escapes him. He receives special assistance in school. Ian loves to watch wrestling and play his video games. He is a huge fan of Harry Potter movies, High School Musical and game shows.

Ian and Skylar are loving, sweet children. They do need a lot of one on one attention to assist them with completing everyday tasks that we sometimes take for granted. Ian and Skylar have been diagnosed with Pervasive Developmental Disorder. This includes some communication challenges. Ian and Skylar have made some improvements in this area. Both children can treat you to smiles and hugs that will melt your heart. Ian and Skylar will need a family who will understand and have experience with children with challenging behaviors. The family must be resourcesfull and willing to seek any needed services. Ian and Skylar will also need a family willing to be very structured and to set and follow a routine. The family chosen for these children will be prepared to gradually and sensitively introduce them to new people, places and activities. Visit us at the Heart Gallery of North Texas.
