Joana is a beautiful child who enjoys reading books, (mostly mysteries), and is a very talented artist. She is particularly good at drawing people. Her favorite past-times are listening to music, watching music videos, playing soccer and roller-skating. A typical teen, she enjoys talking on the phone, going to the mall and to the movies with her friends. She is very giving and generous. She likes to attend church and help out. Joana is outgoing and has no trouble making and maintaining friends. She is extremely inquisitive when meeting new people and she will ask lots of questions. You will immediately feel that she is very self-assured. However, Joana has an extremely hard time opening up to others and sharing her feelings, likes and dislikes. Joana is also very curious and likes to learn new things. She does struggle in school to complete her assignments and need lots of support and encouragement. Joana really wants a forever family. She states that her ideal family will have a mom, dad, and a little brother or sister. Joana has two brothers who will not be placed with her into adoption. She has struggled with the loss of her birth family and the separation from her siblings. She understands that she will not be placed with them but it is important for her to maintain some contact with them. Her Hispanic culture and religious background is very important to her. Joana will need time to get to know her perspective adoptive family prior to placement. Joana needs a family that will love her, treat her with kindness and be open to helping her express her feelings about her past, the present, and her future. Joana's family must be willing to devote the time and effort to help make her feel that she belongs. They will also understand that Joana will test boundaries, but as long as her family is firmly committed to her and shows her the love she needs, this will only be a very short phase.
