John H is a 17-year-old boy from Maine who is hoping to be adopted.
John was born in March of 1992. He considers himself to be an “outdoorsman” and would love to be able to live on a farm, orchard, or home that has a lot of acreage for him to roam and explore. John likes to discover nature and is particularly interested in various bugs, snakes and frogs. John enjoys almost any outdoor activity but mostly likes hiking, camping and fishing. He isn’t partial to very, very cold weather but doesn’t mind the heat and loves to go swimming. One of his favorite things about his current home is that it has a swimming pool and he is anxious to take full advantage of it in the summer months. John likes all animals and would love to be in a home with pets. John is currently taking horseback riding lessons and the only thing he seems to like as much as riding the horses, is talking about them. In a conversation with John he described his typical routine with his favorite horse that he rides, Foxy. He first brushes her and then her saddle goes on, after that they get to ride indoors in the winter months and out of doors in the summer. John is excited to try the obstacle course this summer that the stable he takes lessons at has set up outside. His pride is obvious when he explains how at first the horse needed to be guided when he rode but now he can do it all by himself. John has a mischievous grin when he says that Foxy is stubborn but fun to ride and needs to wear a muzzle because she is a “biter”. John shared that he likes to ride horses because they are nice and friendly. John is shy when you first meet him but his endearing smile and kind eyes quickly begin to introduce you to who he is inside. Once John begins discussing topics that he enjoys, he is eager to open up and share his thoughts. John enjoys shopping, especially for bargains or video games. Like most boys John’s age he loves to play video games very much and though racing games are among his favorite he doesn’t discriminate and will play anything. He enjoys any video game, not matter what the premise, and is quick to become accomplished at what he plays. John has a great sense of humor and his very own sense of style. He is also an avid ping-pong player and enjoys playing with pokemon cards and his gameboy. John also enjoys taking care of things. For example, he likes to garden and has a couple of plants that he is very conscientious about taking care of everyday. John described a family of sea monkeys he used to have. He was very careful to make sure the water was the right temperature, and that they had enough light and food. Though he no longer has the sea monkeys he would enjoy having some again in the future or a pet he could nurture. School is not among John’s favorite topics to discuss but he admits that his favorite class would be art, where he most enjoys drawing and working with clay. He also likes Math because they get to work on computers, which he enjoys a great deal. John receives special education services to help him keep up in school. Letting John know about changes and transitions ahead of time is very important, as this can be hard for him. John has occasional visits with his mother and would hope to continue this after he is adopted. John looks forward to meeting and growing with his forever family, as he is very excited about the prospect of being adopted. John needs a structured, but loving and open-minded family that will help guide him on his journey to adulthood.Disclaimer
