“Mali” is a perfect little nickname for this little Bi-Racial five year old with the perfectly adorable face. Mali has been given an awful lot to handle and needs a very dedicated, supportive and loving family to help her through life. She has very bright facial expressions and an adorable personality. Even though she has had the intervention of physical and occupational therapy services, Mali has made minimal progress with her fine and gross motor skills. When she is supported in a specialized walker that holds her weight and fully supports her torso, Mali moves her legs spontaneously rather than purposefully. Mali is followed by many different physicians. Mali enjoys the one on one attention and interaction of her caretaker at playtime which allows her with much encouragement to roll from her stomach to her back. She appears to be aware of her surroundings and on occasions responds to her name when being called. She enjoys music, being sung to, family outings and “Sponge Bob”. Although she is non-ambulatory and non-verbal, Mali displays facial expression and emotions by crying, laughing and babbling. There are times when Mali is very hard to console and will cry for long periods of time. She can aspirate her body fluids easily, so special attention must be taken when she eats, cries or is ill. Mali has many challenges yet to overcome and needs a nurturing family to step forward and make the unconditional commitment to be there for her in meeting those challenges. Her adoptive family needs to understand that Mali will need lots of care, require ongoing medical treatment and they will have to be vigilant regarding any changes (even the most minuscule) as the changes could and sometimes will lead to a decline in her health rapidly.
