Kaitlyn is a 15-year-old girl from Kentucky who is hoping to be adopted.

Kaitlyn (07/94) describes herself as funny. She really likes to make people laugh and this sometimes gets her into trouble at school. She is known to be somewhat of a class clown. She feels that she is usually happy and energetic; although she does get depressed when she is thinking about her biological family. Kaitlyn is very creative and talented. She enjoys writing poetry and she loves to sing. She proudly states that she can play the guitar and write her own songs. Kaitlyn states that she is not shy at all. She sang in front of about 300 people at the school talent show and comments that she is a very good singer. Kaitlyn does not really see herself going to college when she finishes high school. She says that she aspires to get a house and be a country singer. When meeting Kaitlyn, she seems to be very personable and easy to talk to. She is able to initiate conversation and make others feel comfortable. She admits that she can be easily excited and says that she is a “big talker.” She remarked that sometimes even her friends have to tell her to calm down. Kaitlyn is an attractive young girl and likes to look nice, but she admits that she is more of a tomboy. She says that she is happy doing anything outdoors. She loves to go camping and goes quite often in her current placement. She enjoys fishing, 4-wheeling, and “mudding.” She also likes to ride go-carts and go horseback riding. She believes that she is an athletic person. When she is bored she will sometimes just go outside and do round-offs and cartwheels. She also enjoys playing computer games, watching movies, reading drama books, and drawing. She says that she draws well and even made a self-portrait once that was pretty good. Kaitlyn is in the 8th grade. She is in regular education classes and makes average grades for the most part. She says that she likes school because of the friends and activities. If she had to pick a favorite subject it would be science. Her least favorite subject is social studies. Kaitlyn says that she is currently open to being adopted, as she would like to be in a permanent home. She feels that she would be able to attach to another family, but agrees that she would be very guarded at first. She says that it is very important for her to be able to maintain contact with biological family members. Kaitlyn really likes living in the country. She does not want to be in a home where she is the only child and she doesn’t care if the other kids are older or younger. She would also prefer to be in a home where there was both a mother and father. She would enjoy having her own room and her own pets. She wants to be in a family where she is able to hang out more with her friends. She would like for an adoptive family to have respect regarding her privacy, but says that she understands she is expected to follow rules.
