Luke’s smile says it all - he is an engaging guy with a lot of strengths! He is very friendly and fun to be with, he enjoys learning activities and being outside. He has great communication skills and can express his emotions well. He does very well with other children in the home and is empathetic and caring in his approach. He enjoys animals and is very gentle with them. Luke enjoys fishing and music but doesn’t show a lot of interest at this time in team related sports. He is always interested in what happens around him, and he likes to remain active. He will seek to build relationships using games, puzzles, word play and art activities. Luke currently lives in a facility where he has worked hard on his socialization and educational goals. The good news is that he has made great progress. His teachers and support staff report that he can be brought on track with reminders to stay on task. He needs reminders about his daily schedule as he gets easily distracted into fun things, but he will pay attention if he knows that he can enjoy those fun things later in the day. In some situations, Luke needs help in recognizing social cues in the same way other children would. In these situations, Luke does great when re-directed, especially if approached with humor, affection and clear alternatives. Luke wants very much to have a family that includes other children in the home. He will also want his family’s understanding and support in maintaining relationships with his two brothers. The family that offers Luke a nurturing, structured environment with a lot of activities to enjoy will see his personality and great qualities shine through!
