Makeya is a 11-year-old girl from North Carolina who is hoping to be adopted.

Like many siblings, Makeya and Malik often test and tease one another, but they love each other dearly. They hope to find a loving family who will cherish them and adopt them together. Once she feels safe and comfortable around someone, Makeya’s friendly and bubbly personality shines. She loves to be silly and make her foster parents laugh. With the stability and consistency of a supportive foster family, Makeya has really blossomed and is coming out of her shell. She can now speak up for herself and takes more pride in her appearance. Makeya loves singing and dancing and performing with the praise team at church. She also enjoys skating and bowling with her foster parents or riding her bike or scooter. School can be quite a struggle for Makeya. Her personal education plan allows her two hours of resource assistance each day. Makeya receives a variety of means to help her be successful, such as modified assignments, extended test time, and permission to mark in books. Malik is the funny, handsome, and adventurous brother who loves his sister, but picks on her a great deal. Those who know Malik love his sense of humor and his charming personality. They also love how helpful he can be. Malik enjoys science, sports, animals, and reading. He also likes to play video games, hang out with friends, attend the youth ministry, and watch TV. While Malik prefers to have other people around, he can entertain himself for awhile. He loves playing trombone in the school’s marching band. In school, Malik receives resource assistance and some advantages in test taking. He has made tremendous progress and came very close to making the honor roll. Malik’s teacher says he is very bright, considering his challenge of staying on task. Malik is learning to show more respect and understand that he cannot always be in control. Makeya and Malik need a two-parent adoptive family who can provide a highly structured environment with very clear expectations and boundaries. Any other children must be three to four years older than Malik. An adoptive family for Makeya and Malik must be willing to advocate on their behalf, particularly with education and therapeutic services. They should be active and encourage the children’s extracurricular activities. They must understand Malik’s need for control and allow him to make decisions and choices whenever possible.
