Maurice is a 19-year-old boy from Alabama who is hoping to be adopted.Maurice born in February 1998 was born prematurely and has been with the same foster mother the entire time he has been in foster care. Maurice is a happy boy who smiles a lot. He squeels loudly with excitement when he is happy. He enjoys playing with some hand held baby toys. He attends school daily and is in the special education program. He receives physical and occupational therapy several times a week while at school. He is unable to verbalize or make his needs known. But he seems to be able to understand what others are saying to him at times. His primary source of nutrition is through a feeding tube but he is able to tolerate some baby foods by mouth. He has had seizures in the past but they are well controlled with medication at this time. He has a shunt and is closely monitored by a neurologist. He is non-ambulatory and uses a wheelchair for mobility. He wears braces on both legs and feet. He sleeps soundly and required the use of an immobilizer to sleep. Maurice is a very special child who will require a significant level of support for the rest of his life.
