Melissa is a very friendly and funny girl who is very caring and thoughtful of others. She is a wonderful artist who loves to draw. She also enjoys playing soccer and volleyball, writing, cooking, swimming, and being around animals. Her favorite pets are horses and dogs. Melissa enjoys attending church and her religious preference is Christian. She is smart, listens well and is compliant when following directions. Melissa says her ideal family includes two parents and animals. A two parent home would be best for Melissa. There should be no other children in the home or Melissa should be the oldest child in the family. Diagnosed with moderate mental challenges, Melissa functions at the maturity level of a 6 or 7 year old. She responds best to calm and controlled discussion about her behaviors and her adoptive family will need to provide her with a calm and quiet home atmosphere. Melissa will also require help with her school work. Her family will need to be very patient and allow Melissa to express her emotions regarding the loss of her birth family. In her own words…. The most important thing I want people to know about me is I am nice, and I like to help others and help around the house. Also, I wear glasses and I like to travel to fun places. In my free time, I enjoy swimming, going on walks and going to amusement parks. Science and spelling are my favorite school subjects and when I grow up I’d like to be a teacher for 2nd or 6th grade. I love ice cream and being able to do fun things. When I am adopted, I will be able to do more things than I can as a foster kid. Although I am scared about going to a different house with different people, I know being part of a family will mean that they will always be there for me even if I move away.
