Description
Michael is an inquisitive and friendly boy with a great sense of humor. He can be very charismatic and a pleasure to be around. Michael enjoys playing basketball, football, baseball, and computer games. He also likes swimming and lifting weights. When asked his dream for the future, Michael said he would like to work in a pizza parlor.
Michael attends a school for the deaf where he is able to understand the work. Since moving to that school and into the group home where he currently resides, Michael has made tremendous behavioral progress. His grades have improved remarkably and are all high A’s. Counseling is helping Michael deal with the idea of adoption, as well as working on his feelings of loss, separation, and grief.
Because of his profound hearing loss, Michael needs adoptive parents who are proficient in American Sign Language. They should be able to provide structure, consistency, and set limits and boundaries with appropriate consequences. They should also be clear in their expectations of and for Michael. He will do best with a two-parent family to provide him the time and attention he needs. Michael has siblings with whom future contact might be recommended.
