Richard is such a charming, active, and helpful boy that it is hard not to fall in love with him. He loves working and making things with his hands and is proud to have built a go-cart with a little help from his foster dad. Richard's favorite outdoor activities are similar in nature: he loves to fish and garden. While he is a sweet child, Richard is at his best in small groups or individual interactions. He also loves putting puzzles together and can do so very quickly. Richard enjoys participating in the youth activities at church. He wants to own a business involving car lots or art. Richard is an intelligent boy who does best in smaller classes. He attends a special resource class for half of his day and his personal educational plan provides alternate ways for him to be academically and behaviorally successful. This arrangement also allows Richard to receive the additional help he needs in some classes. Counseling is helping Richard learn to follow rules, learn appropriate methods of communicating his feelings, and understanding his need for attention. Richard requires a very structured environment and routine. He struggles with changes in his schedule and broken promises, so it is important not make them lightly. Richard feels most safe and loved when he is with familiar people who are consistent and whom he knows care for him. Richard has an older brother with whom frequent visits will be necessary.
