Description
Robert is an alert medically fragile child who responds to voice, touch, and movement by turning his head to stimuli or by laughing and making mouth noises. He currently resides in a therapeutic group home for medically fragile children where he is well adjusted. Robert enjoys being taken to the park and playground for strolling in his wheelchair, he also attends church with other residents and group home staff. He is aware of his environment and readily tries to explore it in a limited manner.
Although Robert has many physical challenges, he is presently medically stable and attends school at the National Children's Center where he receives physical and occupational therapy daily. He has made progress with gross motor skills.
Robert's development will be slow as he grows older, but he still has potential to make gains with continued intervention from physical therapy and his classroom staff. Other strengths include good head control, active movement of all limbs, and no muscle tightness or contractions. He also has not given up despite the odds, and he is in need of a stable family to care for him and meet his physcial and medical needs.
While all families will be considered, the ideal home for Robert would be a two-parent family where he would be the only child, or at least, the youngest child. Some background or experience with medically fragile children would be wonderful.
Until Robert finds a family willing to provide him with the love, nurturance, and devotion he needs, he will remain in a group home environment. Government assistance and financial compensation are availble to help with Robert's care.
