Samantha is a bright, engaging young lady who has many interests and strengths. She is a caring, compassionate girl who cares about the people and things around her. She has a good sense of humor. Samantha is at her happiest when she is active and can participate in her favorite activities. She is a great swimmer, enjoys most sports and loves to travel. Samantha also likes going to church. Those around her noticed a difference in her behaviors when she was attending church regularly. Samantha is willing to try new things and is always up for an adventure! Samantha taste in music is varied; she says she likes all types. Samantha also loves to dance. This summer, Samantha attended dance, theater and wilderness adventure camps and enjoyed them all. She likes learning new creative outlets and ideas. Samantha is a very social young lady. Like most girls her age, Samantha likes to hang out with her friends, listen to music, watch TV or just chat. Also like most young ladies her age, Samantha is concerned about how she looks and takes time to present herself well. She does her hair, carefully picks out her clothes and wears a little bit of makeup to finish off her “look”. She is ready to help her friends, and wants to buy them gifts. However, Samantha has difficulty maintaining those friendships. Samantha will help out around the house and keep her room clean when there is a reward in place. She is learning how to cook. Samantha likes school and is particularly good at math. She says she wants to go on to college after she finishes high school. She is very creative in her ideas. Sometimes, Samantha can get overwhelmed and frustrated and must leave the classroom to calm herself down. She is improving in being able to use her developed coping skills in those moments. She is also improving with negotiating with her caregivers to a “win-win” solution so both sides are happy with the outcome. Samantha sometimes displays poor judgement. However, when Samantha makes a poor choice, she is able to take some time away and will come back to admit her mistakes. She is taking a Dialectical Behavioral Technique training and education course to learn new ways to express herself and help her make better choices. Samantha loves animals. In the past she has had fish and a cat. She now has a lizard. She is responsible for feeding the lizard. She hopes her forever family will have animals, or at least be open to the idea of getting a pet for her to care for. Samantha is a teenager who REALLY wants a family! The professionals who work with Samantha feel she will do best in a family without children close to her age. Couples and single women will be considered but it is important for Samantha to have a positive male role model in her life. Samantha will benefit greatly from a family that can provide her with a sense of belonging. She would like a family that would keep her involved in the activities she loves. Samantha will do best in a family that is active and enjoys doing things together. The right family for Samantha would also be able to maintain consistent limits, provide a structured environment and be willing to work with outside providers. She is currently involved in attachment therapy with her foster parent and is making goof process. It would be important that any adoptive family be open to participating in attachment work with Samantha.
