Introducing Shamara – an energetic teen who is looking for a loving family! Shamara loves talking on the phone and hanging out with her friends. She is a stylish young lady who loves to wear her hair braided. Shamara enjoys church activities and is currently in the youth choir and attends weekly Bible study. This teen is quite the competitor! Last summer, she participated in a Young Marines program, noting that her favorite part was competing in challenges against the other youth. Shamara traveled out of state for the first time in her life this past year; she spent the holidays with her extended foster family and reported that she had a wonderful time. She maintains telephone contact with her birth family, and it will be important for potential adoptive families to be willing to allow her to continue these relationships. This school year is the first one in regular public school for Shamara. By working hard to improve her academics and behavior, she has made tremendous progress in school and has even made the honor roll on two occasions. She attends individual therapy on a biweekly basis and has been seeing the same therapist for three years. Shamara will be her best in the home of a single female, and she will get along well with female siblings. She is eager to have a permanent place to belong - a place in a loving family environment where she is accepted unconditionally, protected and respected, and valued as the unique individual that she is!
