Shamel loves to tinker and take electronic things apart and then put them back together. He also enjoys playing basketball and riding his bike, and he is crazy about puzzles and computer games. Shamel is a bright young man who is capable of doing well in school. Unfortunately, he needs a great deal more motivation and initiative to be academically successful. Counseling is helping him learn ways to stay on task, maintain acceptable conduct, and express his feelings appropriately. Shamel needs a family that will let him take time to know them and trust that they want him as part of their permanent family. An adoptive family for Shamel will be consistent and provide the structure and stability that has proven to be effective. It is important to Shamel that his adoptive family be truthful with him. They can also work with him on better ways of handling stressful circumstances. Shamel has a brother who is being adopted separately, but with whom he needs frequent contact.
