Shanita is a teen who enjoys music and crafts. Because of early trauma, she faces many challenges. She communicates primarily by voice and eye gaze, but she has a smile to share with everyone she meets. She often needs to use a voice input device to talk with peers and her teacher. Shanita’s greatest strength is her personal-social skills including her adult interaction and her ability to express her feelings. Her most challenging need is in her motor development, as she is dependent on others for her care and movement. Shanita has an individualized educational program which gives her one-on-one attention and sets age appropriate goals for her education. Shanita needs a family who can not only provide her with the physical care she needs, but also the emotional, social, and educational support she requires to thrive. She has one sister with whom she is very close, and her new family will need to understand and support Shanita’s desire to maintain this family connection. Shanita is a young lady who has a lot to handle and will be counting on her new family to provide a safe, stable home environment where she can feel loved and accepted.
