Photolisting Profile for Shannon
Shannon
Description
Shannon is almost 16-years-old. Here’s what we would like you to know about her.
HER favorite things:
Animals, especially horses
What we want families to know about her:
Shannon is a sweet, caring, and very resilient young woman. She is a delight to be around and wants very much to be part of a family. She is very appropriate with younger children and loves babies.
Shannon thrives in peaceful, relaxed settings and is working hard to develop her relationship skills with both adults and peers. Shannon has experienced a great deal of neglect and abandonment in her life and has learned to express her needs through her behaviors. This is seen most often as task refusal/oppositional behavior. She is on an Individualized Education Plan (IEP) at school.
What we are seeking in a family for her:
Shannon needs a family that is willing to work with her residential program to transition her into their home over the next year. Her family needs to be flexible; provide Shannon with adequate time to transition into their home; and avoid power struggles.
Shannon needs parents who understand the effects of neglect and abuse on children; are willing to participate in any recommended trainings and therapy sessions; are patient and loving with Shannon; are not afraid to seek outside help if and when they need it; can work cooperatively with her school, residential program, therapists, and others; and can provide her with the consistency, routine, and structure she needs.
