Spencer enjoys anything active. He has a good imagination and likes to role play and pretend. He also loves to play outside and enjoys animals. Spencer enjoys watching movies and reading books, and he excels at math and reading. When he is reading something that interests him, he has great retention. Spencer is talkative and will interact with almost anyone. He enjoys being part of a family and has adjusted well to being “on the go” with his foster family. His foster family appreciates Spencer’s unique perspective on things and that he talks about how he feels. Spencer’s new family should have a lot of patience and a good routine at home. He likes to know what is going to happen each day and needs to be reminded of the expectations. He is participating in a life skills classroom to help him live independently when he is older. He does well in school currently, but does get frustrated and down on himself when things are challenging for him. The adoptive family should have some knowledge of parenting a mentally challenged child. A strong support system of community and extended family would be great. Spencer does have a sibling in Iowa with whom he should maintain contact.
