William is a 16-year-old boy from North Carolina who is hoping to be adopted.
William is a sweet boy who thrives on routine and structure. He loves to play with toys that make lots of noise and watch cartoons. William does not communicate verbally, although he is able to imitate words and sounds. Hand gestures and guttural noises communicate what he needs or wants. He is able to understand most verbal instructions. William attends an exceptional children's classroom where he receives physical education and speech therapy. His group home facility is assisting William with becoming as independent and self-sufficient as possible. He has made very good progress and is able to ride the bus to school, carry out household duties such as putting things away, cleaning up after himself, and taking care of personal needs. William has three younger siblings, two sisters and a brother, who are placed together. He visits with them monthly and is happy and excited to see them when visits occur. He gives them many hugs, kisses them and touches their faces to express his joy at seeing them. He likes to try to coax his brother to wrestle with him and tickle him. William's adoptive family will need to be committed to continuing his visitation with his siblings. An adoptive family for William must be able to provide him with stability, love, dependability, and security. The family must understand William’s challenges and dependence and continue to work with him to become as independent as possible. An ideal family for William would be a family in which he is an only child or the youngest child of male siblings. A two-parent family is preferred for William, but a single-parent family has not been ruled out.Agency Child ID: NC01982793
