Zion

Zion is an 8-year-old boy from Texas who is hoping to be adopted.
Zion is a smiling, fun loving little boy who enjoys family outings and community activities. He loves going to Wal-Mart and to McDonald's where he spends lots of time playing in the playground. Zion also likes cartoons and one of his favorite DVD's is "Tom & Jerry". Zion attends classes at school for children with special needs and learns at a slower rate than other children his age. School staff report that Zion knows his way around the classroom, has memorized all sight word cards and can identify colors and shapes. Zion participates in speech, physical and occupational therapy. Zion likes to test the limits and he will display a typical temper tantrum, at times. Zion was born premature, has been diagnosed with Autistic Spectrum Disorder and Chronic Lung Disease. He receives nutrition by g-tube but can eat orally if the food is pureed. Zion loves food especially desert. Zion receives several hours of home health care services per week which is expected to decrease as he continues to improve. Zion is more comfortable with close relationships and in a familiar social setting. Zion's challenges do not deter Zion from showing his potential for growth. Everyone who works with him, including teachers, therapists, nurses, believe that he is smart, say he is independent and courageous in making progress.
Zion needs a loving, understanding family who is able to provide Zion opportunities for growth. His family will need to be familiar with Zion's daily challenges and encourage him for ongoing developmental progress. The best family for Zion will have experience with children with special needs. Zion will be a great joy and pride to that special family willing to open their heart and home to him. Zion has a twin sister who is not a part of this adoption.
